Developing and driving the science, research outcomes, and partnerships that accelerate threatened and endangered (T&E) and at-risk species conservation and recovery efforts in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems.

Projects in the T&E Lab often combine traditional ecological approaches with cutting-edge machine learning techniques and partner-driven collaborations. Examples include:

IMPROVED MANAGEMENT ON MILITARY LANDS

MODELING MULTISPECIES CONNECTIVITY

Mojave Desert Tortoise Occupancy Tool

The T&E Lab seeks to accelerate domestic and international species conservation and recovery efforts through a diverse and holistic array of projects. Our efforts build from our history of project work on dozens of listed species and sensitive ecosystems around the globe and with a broad range of project partners, including government agencies, NGO’s, and socially progressive companies. Most specifically, we draw on over a decade of research centered on the federally threatened Mojave desert tortoise and its habitat. This work has involved collaborations with partners and funders from all sectors of society and a diversity of accomplishments that illuminate a broader vision for the lab. Our vision is to improve species conservation and recovery efforts through projects that are appropriately multifaceted and interdisciplinary, incorporating robust analytical and statistical modeling approaches, social science principles, intentional communication and outreach tools, and durable monitoring efforts.
