Matt Williamson, PhD, Senior Associate Scientist
Matt is a Senior Associate Scientist at CSP and an Associate Professor in Human-Environment Systems at Boise State University, where he leads the SPASES Lab. He studies the politics of conservation, where policy tends to be designed for ecosystems or for political expedience. His research asks what it takes to design conservation policy that benefits both ecosystems and the people embedded in them. That question runs through his work on the Endangered Species Act, wildlife governance preferences across North America, and the role of social capital in community-scale planning for wildfire and habitat. Matt is contracted to contribute to CSP’s connectivity initiatives, bringing the governance and political context of a place into evaluations of future-informed connectivity strategies.
