Andy Maguire, PhD, Remote Sensing Scientist
Andy (he/him) is an ecologist who uses field-based and remote sensing measurements to improve characterization of ecosystem processes and detect spatial patterns of ecological change over time. His research fuses multiple data streams to quantify structure and function of vegetation and ecosystem dynamics. He also is interested in developing interactive data visualization tools and models to advance ecological conservation efforts in the face of global environmental change.
Andy holds a PhD from University of Idaho where he leveraged approaches from ecophysiology and remote sensing to reveal subtle yet informatically rich signals of carbon-uptake dynamics of Arctic-Boreal ecosystems. Prior to joining CSP, Andy was a NASA Postdoctoral Program fellow at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, studying phenology with optical measurements from satellites, airplanes, and field-based instruments. He also holds an MS in wildlife and conservation biology from University of New Hampshire and a BA in biology and environmental science from Colby College.
Raised in the coastal mixed forests of New England, Andy enjoys exploring the diverse landscapes of the west from his home in the Sierra Nevada. He’s happiest enjoying a burrito after a day spent running, skiing, mountain biking, or packrafting in the backcountry.
