Helen Kesting, MSc, Scientist

Helen (she/her) is a landscape ecologist and spatial data scientist with an interest in applying remote sensing, machine learning, and statistical models to inform decision making in resource management and conservation. She has worked with NGOs, government agencies, and universities to monitor freshwater systems through electrofishing, implementing the BLM lotic AIM protocol, and measuring greenhouse gas fluxes in montane meadows.
Helen earned an MS in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno and a BS in Environmental Science from Washington State University. Her graduate research used remotely sensed vegetation indices and climate variables to model seasonal precipitation partitioning calculated from hydrologic isotope data.
Outside of work, Helen loves chasing type II fun through endurance sports, including ski mountaineering, rock climbing, and backpacking. She is an aspiring ultramarathoner, so she spends most evenings exploring the trails near her home in Reno, NV.
