NO FARMS, NO FOOD, NO FUTURE: AMERICAN FARMLAND TRUST AND CSP RELEASE NEW REPORT ON THE NATIONAL LOSS OF FARMLAND.

Between 1992 and 2012, almost 31-million acres of farmland were lost, equal to all the farmland in Iowa, and nearly twice the area previously reported!

Farmers, land managers, and policy makers are greatly concerned over the loss of natural resources as land use change occurs. Because there is a growing need to understand the patterns and rates of change that better inform land use and conservation planning at relevant scales, as well as to inform and motivate decision makers regarding the importance of this finite resource, American Farmland Trust (AFT) and Conservation Science Partners worked together over the last three years to generate the “Farms Under Threat: the State of America’s Farmlands” data and map products. We’re happy to announce and share this work with you! Details on the national report and initiative, as well as CSP’s technical report, can be found at the AFT website and through their Farmland Information Center.
