Harshad Karandikar, PhD, Postdoctoral Scientist

Harshad (he/him) is a movement and spatial ecologist working with the Analytics and Changing Landscapes Labs at CSP. He currently works on a project to evaluate the benefits of restoring wildlife habitat and connectivity in the Cerrado savanna region of Brazil with an objective of informing restoration of agricultural lands and monitoring approaches in the region.

Harshad did his PhD work at the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied animal behavior and space use across at different scales in South America, and significant field work experience across several geographies, including Argentina, Costa Rica, and multiple landscapes in India. He also holds an MBA and a degree in engineering, and has significant prior experience in wildlife conservation non-profits, the government, and industry. In his spare time, Harshad enjoys long-distance running and exploring the San Francisco Bay Area.
